Dart River Canoe and Jet Boat: Glenorchy Wilderness

It falls roughly 75 kilometres from the Dart Glacier to the head of Lake Wakatipu, braiding across a gravel floodplain that redraws itself after every flood. The river now lies within Te Wāhipounamu, the South West New Zealand World Heritage Area. Mount Aspiring National Park rises from both banks, and Pikirakatahi — Mount Earnslaw — carries snow above the confluence. The Rockburn Chasm cuts a narrow slot through schist that meltwater has polished for millennia.
